On Wednesday we see the start of York's, excellent three day Dante meeting .The most interesting race on day one, looks to be the Duke Of York Clipper stakes at 3.15 .
12 runners declared for cracking looking group two 6F sprint at York. on ground described as good/firm . The three main contenders are Twilight Son , Magical Memory & Mattmu .
TWILIGHT SON : High class 4-Y-0 colt ,winning 5 out 6 (111112) including winning the G1 Sprint Cup at Haydock in September .Only defeat came in group one Champions Sprint at Ascot in October behind the very useful Muhaarar .Has to concede weight all round here, on seasonal reappearance, though goes well fresh.
MAGICAL MEMORY : Progressive sort ,winning 5 out 14 ,including winning G3 Abernant stakes at Newmarket last month .Also showed some useful form last season ,including finishing 1L third in Sprint Cup at Haydock ,behind Twilight Son . Looks closely matched with that rival on 5LB better terms .
MATTMU : Consistent sprinter ,with good record over 6F .Winning 5 out 12 .Goes particularly well here at York ,including finishing close 2ND in this race last year . Made promising reappearance at Newmarket last time, finishing half lengh behind Magical Memory .Will be suited returning to York .Each-Way claims .
VERDICT : Twilight Son is clearly the one to beat,on last years group one winning form ,though faces no easy task on seasonal reappearance, under 5LB group one penalty .Has to be respected ,though passed over on this occasion .
MAGICAL MEMORY with run under his belt ,can reverse form with Twilight Son on 5LB better terms.Showed progressive form last season, and looked good as ever when winning G3 Abernant stakes at Newmarket in April .Odds around 11-4 look solid value .
