7.30 Leopardstown 1M Desmond Stakes G3 (Thu 11th Aug )

Bit of quiet start to August, with very few suitable betting opportunities so far this month .However this week looks lot more promising, with some fair racing over the next few days.On Thursday evening ,we have good looking group 3 contest at Leopardstown .

8 runners declared for the group three Desmond Stakes on ground described as good/firm .The three main contenders are Cougar Mountain , Custom Cut & Hit It A Bomb .

COUGAR MOUNTAIN :Fair sort on his day ,winning 2 out 15 ,including winning this race last year . Been slightly disappointing this season , though did finish good 2ND in group three Amethyst stakes over C&D in May.Needs to bounce back ,though more than capable in this grade .

CUSTOM CUT : Useful 7-Y-0 gelding ,winning 12 out 50 ,including winning this race in 2014 .Hasn't looked quite as good this season ,though did finish creditable fourth in group two Summer Mile at Ascot .Should go well ,though all his best form on easy ground .

HIT IT A BOMB : Unbeaten 3-Y-0 colt ,winning 3 out 3 as two year old ,including winning group one Breeders Cup Juvenile at Keeneland in October.Makes his belated seasonal reappearance, after having couple set backs this season ,including missing the 2000 guineas & Royal Ascot.Obvious claims if fully fit, after 286 day lay off .

VERDICT : Hit It A Bomb is clearly the one to beat on last seasons Breeders Cup form ,though has been slow to come to hand this season ,after having couple early season setbacks .Odds around 13-8 look short enough, for horse likely to improve for the race .

At the prices  COUGAR MOUNTAIN looks the each-way value .Goes well here at Leopardstown ,having won this race last year on fast ground ,and also just touched off in Amethyst Stakes over C&D at Leopardstown in May .Odds around 5-1 look solid value .
