Today we saw Mistral Star go close on debut at Lingfield when finishing a gallant runner-up in the 12:55 It's Time To Turn To Talk Radio EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes (Div I) over 1m.
In the familiar silks of Helena Springfield Ltd, this good-looking daughter of Frankel out of a winning and Group 1 placed mare [Shirocco Star] looked set to win after sitting handy from the start after showing good pace from a wide draw in stall 10. She was collared late in a close finish by the twice-raced Charlie Appleby filly Sunset Point who squeeze through a gap, between runners, to win by half a length. Mistral Star touched as low as 1.19 in running and should prove hard to stop on her next start.
Nibbled in the betting market to 8/1, this February foal was clearly sent here with a live hope and didn't disappoint. This bay filly, a home bred, from Meon Valley Stud, has a bright future.
Hugo Palmer's Princess Niyla ran a fine race in third at odds of 22/1 and is another prospect worthy of note on her second start.
Helena Springfield had another debutante in the second division, Emma Emilleen, trained by James Fanshawe, who finished a creditable sixth, beaten less than five lengths, at odds of 25/1. This daughter of Lope De Vega is a home bred out of a twice-winning mare.
